What arithmetic operations are supported?

Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division between two numeric columns. You select the two source columns, the operation, and the target column.

How is this different from a formula column?

Formula columns are read-only — you cannot edit the result, use it in automations, or reference it in other formulas easily. This action writes to a real editable number column, making the result fully usable across your workflow.

What happens if one of the source columns is empty?

Empty columns are treated as 0. So dividing by an empty column would result in a division by zero — in that case, the action does not write a value to avoid errors.
